What counts

On DuoFrame a streak goes up by one each day you and a friend have both sent each other at least one snap. A photo counts, a three-second clip counts, and a DuoShot counts.

Days follow the time zone on your phone. If you are in Lahore and they are in Toronto, your midnight is what ends your day.

Why a streak breaks when you think it shouldn’t

These are the usual reasons, in the order we see them.

  1. Only one of you sent a snap that day. Both have to.
  2. The snap was still sending when the day ended. Check that it says Sent, not Sending.
  3. The phone was offline. Queued snaps send when you are back online, which can be the next day.

Getting a broken streak back

The day after a streak breaks, Home shows a card offering to restore it with a streak freeze. Use it and the streak is back where it was, for both of you.

You can earn a freeze in the app. Don’t wait: the offer only lasts a short while after the streak breaks.

Don’t let it become a chore

A streak is a reason to say hi, not a job. If you want a nudge, keep the evening reminder on; it only fires if your person hasn’t heard from you that day. If the counter starts to stress you out, turn the reminder off in Notifications.
